Literary Fiction: Obesity, Sexuality, and Sin

Infinity Publishing and author Jennifer Semple Siegel announce the literary debut of "Are You EVER Going to be Thin?" (and other stories). This poignant collection delves into the issues of weight, obesity, sexuality, sin (as defined by the Catholic Church), and family dysfunction.

(PRWEB) July 24, 2004 -- Infinity Publishing and Jennifer Semple Siegel announce the debut of her collection "Are You EVER Going to be Thin?" (and other stories).

"Are You EVER Going to be Thin?" (and other stories) chronicles artist Samantha Anne Mallory's battle with weight, obesity, family, molestation, abuse, love, marriage, sexuality, infidelity, the Catholic church, traumatic cultural events, and death.

A family reunion awakens the voices of Samantha's relatives, dead and alive. The title story interweaves childhood letters from an aunt with a grandmother's dire warnings about obesity, sex, sin, and duty to family and the Catholic Church.

"Time, An Other," the opening story, describes Samantha's first memory; other stories move forward and backward and forward in time.

"Psychedelic Bingo" moves forward to 2035; "Time, Suspended," the last story (set in 1990), reveals a family secret.

Semple Siegel teaches creative writing and literature at York College of Pennsylvania.

Her fiction and non-fiction, including scholarly articles, have been published in various national and regional journals, magazines, and anthologies. From 1993-1996, she edited Onion River Review, a literary journal.
