RESEARCH into conditions including diabetes, obesity, stress and high cholesterol is to be carried out at a new school of health sciences which is planned for the north of Scotland.
The centre is being launched by the UHI Millennium Institute, the organisation which aims to establish a University of the Highlands and Islands by 2007.
It will incorporate a chair in health sciences, funded by Inverness Medical, the largest private employer in the Highlands, which will change its name to LifeScan Scotlandlater this year.
The school is expected to be based at the proposed 14 million Highlands and Islands medi-centre at Raigmore Hospital, which is being promoted by Inverness and Nairn Enterprise.
The medi-centre project was awarded 2.7 million in European funding in March this year.
