The National Medical Association will convene its 102nd Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly Saturday, July 31 through Aug. 5, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, Calif.

This year's annual convention will be preceded by a two-day comprehensive health screening in the city of San Diego, where more than 2,000 residents are expected to be tested for hypertension, glaucoma, diabetes, prostate cancer, high cholesterol and other diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans and Hispanics.

The annual convention and scientific assembly will focus on obesity, the human genome, profiling of African American physicians, disparities in health care, asthma management, emergency medicine, pediatrics, pain management, OB/GYN risk management, oncology, hypertension, spectrum of diabetes and cardio-vascular disease, contemporary issues and research updates on contraceptives, resurgence of reflux of esophalgitis in African American patients and prostate cancer are among the dozens of medical and scientific seminars and lectures scheduled.
