Obese man has no right to larger flat

A court in Germany has ruled that a 28-stone man doesn't have right to a larger council flat than the one he lives in.

The unidentified man had been living on benefit with a relative in the city of Mainz in a flat measuring 650-sq feet.

But when his relative died, social services told him he would have to move into a 370sq-foot apartment.

The man submitted a formal objection, producing a medical certificate stating he would be unable to use the kitchen or toilet facilities in the smaller apartment due to his condition.

The court, however, ruled in favour of social services, saying obesity didn't constitute grounds for the man to remain in a large flat.
