Childhood obesity raises risk of anaemia

Childhood obesity is linked to a high risk of anaemia, according to new research.

A study published in Pediatrics examined the association between weight body mass index (BMI) and iron deficiency in children 2 to 16 years of age.

Of 9,698 children investigated, 13.7% were at risk for overweight and 10.2% were overweight.

Those who were overweight were also twice as likely to be iron-deficient (odds ratio 2.3) as the healthy weight children.
