Tubby dogs take the lead from us

By Metro Reporter
28 June 2004

Lazy dog owners are putting their pets' lives at risk, says research. Two-thirds of vets reported a rise in obesity, heart disease and arthritis among dogs in the past year.

Much of the problem is blamed on owners failing to take their dogs for enough walks, with just four in ten giving their pets an hour or more exercise a day, the Asda poll found.

Vet Alistair Gibson said: 'We're more car-bound than ever and dogs suffer as a result.' An Asda spokesman said the human obesity crisis was being 'mirrored in our pets'.
