HEALTH NEWS Kids who are overweight and obese have arteries that act like those of middle-aged smokers.
An ultra-sound study of 82 overweight children found premature artery problems in these kids similar to those seen in adults smoking for more than ten years. The good news published in this week's Circulation Journal is that diet and exercise can improve artery function.
But a U.C. San Diego study finds not enough exercise is more to blame for obesity in teens than how much fat and calories they eat.
Researchers say more emphasis needs to be placed on getting kids to be more active.
